Cloughey FC Ladies Accepted into the Northern Ireland Women’s Football Association (NIWFA)

Cloughey FC is proud to announce that Cloughey FC Ladies have officially been accepted into the Northern Ireland Women’s Football Association (NIWFA), marking a significant milestone for the club and women’s football in the local community.
The acceptance recognises the commitment, growth, and dedication shown by the players, coaching staff, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to establish the team and develop a strong foundation for the future.
Grainne Smyth, Manager of Cloughey FC Ladies, said:
“This is a fantastic achievement for the players and everyone who has worked behind the scenes to get us to this point. The commitment shown by the squad has been outstanding, and being accepted into the NIWFA gives us the platform to continue developing, competing, and representing Cloughey FC with pride.”
Curtis McClements, Chairman of Cloughey FC, added:
“This is a hugely positive step for Cloughey FC as a whole. The growth of the ladies’ team reflects our commitment to inclusivity and development across all areas of the club. We are extremely proud of what has been achieved and fully support the team as they prepare for this exciting new chapter.”
Joining the NIWFA enables Cloughey FC Ladies to compete within an established league structure, further develop players, and continue promoting women’s football throughout the region.
The club would like to thank all players, coaches, sponsors, and supporters who have contributed to reaching this milestone and looks forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Get to Know Us
On the 28th April we kicked off our ladies football journey with no idea how it would go, as it was the first of its kind down here in the Lowers Ards Peninsula … Fast forward to now and WOW — the growth has been nothing short of amazing!
From small beginnings, our numbers just kept climbing. On the 23rd May we welcomed our new manager Grainne Smyth and captain Nadine Keenan, and hit the ground running. Straight away the girls showed off some incredible skills that only made us more excited for the future ahead
Our very first match against Dundrum fell on Sunday 29th June .We WON . It lit a spark in the team that day — the competitive fire was well and truly ignited Since then, interest has only grown, new faces keep joining, and the buzz around the squad is electric.
With upcoming friendlies on the horizon, we’re gearing up for next season’s Pathway League. One thing’s for sure — this is more than just a team. The morale, the bond, and the spirit among these girls is something special
